Key characteristics:
- Moves relatively medium to large distances
- Low to medium movement speed, such that each intermediate position is observable by the naked eye
- Continuous movement
- Movement direction is random
Hypothetical functions
- Gliding eye movements appear identical to smooth pursuit eye movements, which occur for everyone regardless of personality type when the eyes are following a moving object. However, only some people are able to replicate smooth pursuit eye movement in the absence of a moving object (see reference image and link below.) These people's gaze direction moves as if there are objects even when there aren't. Seeing things that don't tangibly exist may have fostered a new form of creativity
- Since the eyes move continuously, the gaze isn't fixing upon various objects. This may contribute to an abstract perception through which the concrete reality is overlooked in favor of possibilities and alternatives
